LO2 (Unit 21) - Be able to create a proposal and pitch for an original media product based on a given brief
Purpose:
LOUD magazine will be a North London music magazine based around the genre of pop. Loud magazine will appeal to ages 13-20 due to the variety of artists surrounding the pop genre from Billie Eilish to Beyonce, while including interviews and updates of upcoming Pop artists within North London. I have chosen to call my magazine LOUD as the pop music connotations include the music being loud, energetic and lively for the audience to engage in and therefore the conclusion of LOUD makes it suitable for my magazine.
My magazine aim's to promote the pop genre to the music lovers of North London and introduce a new style of pop to the North London area while informing readers of the popular pop artists who are upcoming within the area.
Form & Genre:
LOUD magazine will be released, as stated by the brief, both online and in print version and will be sold on the 3rd of every month all year round. The form of my magazine front cover and back page will be glossy with the pages inside (90) the magazine will be normal paper however will be recyclable. I am making it recyclable to aid helping the environment so, one finished, can be used for the making of other products. The front cover of the magazine will consist of a main image (originally taken) with famous pop artists surrounding to engage the audiences to read the magazine due to the familiarity of their favourite pop artists. The main image will link to the article on the double page spread about the new upcoming artist answering the public's questions.
The genre of my magazine will be Pop, which is a popular music genre within the area of North London. The decision to base my genre on pop comes from the research of the most popular genres surrounding my target audience ages of 13-20.
Mood board:
My mood-board has been inspired by research into existing popular pop music magazines and seeing what they use in order to engage their audience, including famous pop artists, bright colours and funky fonts.
Content:
The magazine's content will include feature articles about an upcoming artist, reviews of new pop music within the area as well as tour dates, tickets and exclusive interviews from pop artists. The content needs to be appealing to the target audience which I believe will be successful by the inclusion of different pop artists, including a range of exclusive features (tour dates, interviews etc) allows the audience to be more engaged and interested, while creating content that is original without it being similar to other pop magazines already on the market. On the double page spread of my magazine will link the online feature to the print of the magazine. This will include questions from the public which have been asked online for the artist which will be answered in a Q&A style. The reason why I feel this will be most effective is because it links together the online feature where the public can ask artists questions to the print version which will show the cross promotion of online and print and make the audience aware of this extra feature.
Target Audience:
The magazine Loud magazine will be aimed, as the primary audience, at ages 13-20 as pop music is listened to by a wide range of ages. However, the secondary audience would be ages 25-40 as parents may listen to pop music for nostalgia or on the radio. I have chosen a wide age range due to the different uses and gratifications included within listening to pop music. For example, the younger audiences may listen to this music for entertainment and personal identity (as they may relate to the younger pop artists), whereas the older audience may listen for entertainment and education into the favourable music listened to by youths.
The magazine will not be for a specific gender, religion or ethnicity and will mainly appeal to north London audiences.
The target audience will be taken into account when designing my magazine when considering the fonts and style to be accessible and clear for younger audiences. As my magazine will be targeted at both males and females the demographic will be BC1 due to the youth of the target age who may not be in full time jobs- with the style being gender neutral when considering this. The magazine will appeal to reformers and explorers as they both seek energy and enlightenment when getting escapism for the magazine.

Distribution:
LOUD magazine will be distributed both online and in store, as stated by the client brief, and will be released each month. Online, the magazine would have a website in order to promote all the issues of the magazine for the target audience to access without buying (buy subscription). The website will also have exclusive information about what's to come in on coming magazines that wont be accessible on the print version. Also, I would use social media apps to promote the magazine due to the younger target audience who are highly reliant on social media platforms such as facebook, instagram, twitter etc where they can find out more about LOUD magazine. The magazine would be sold in newsagents and local grocery stores in order to target both the younger and older target audiences as they are local places the age ranges tend to go. I would also promote the magazine around pop venues on posters to engage the target audience who favour pop.
For the magazine, I would promote artists concerts and opportunities to entise the target audience and also include products that artists associated with that genre have to allow the audience to want to buy the products due to the marketing in the magazine.
Marketing:
To market my magazine, I will start by handing out free copies of the first issues of the magazine around popular places in North London for example, Camden and Hampstead to attract the audience for my magazine initially which will then make them want to purchase more. Another way to market my magazine will be to get popular pop artists to write reviews on the magazine and take pictures holding the magazine for them to put on their social medias in order to get the specified target audience interested in purchasing. The unique selling point of my magazine is the idea of promoting new upcoming artists of the pop genre within North London while furthering pop music lover's knowledge of artists lives and music status, for example, their growth in the industry (top 100 etc). My magazine is also going to include a special QR code on the double page spread to engage the target audience into having an exclusive insight for a snippet of a new song by the artist.
Competition:
Many pop magazines who are on the market bring great competition to my magazine. For example, pop music magazines such as SHOUT, WE LOVE POP etc. However these magazine's provide a variety of the same details for example, interviews with existing artists and many features to update fans on artist news. My magazine however, will take a unique approach by introducing new artists and also allowing the audience to interact with the artists by allowing a feature of 'Q&A' which will be featured in my double page spread.

Price:
LOUD magazine is targeted at teenagers/ young adults which therefore means price needs to be considered to be set at a reasonable number. This is because the target audience I have chosen may be going to school/ collage or university meaning they may not be able to afford if it was a high price. The magazine will be aimed to appeal to members of social grade BC1 and therefore have considered the magazine to be a reasonable price. LOUD magazine will be sold for a good value of money as it includes special offers for audiences including exclusive tickets and links to teaser songs. The magazine will be sold at £4.50 per copy or an annual subscription of £23.99 in order to get monthly deliverys of the magazine.
Sample Material to support:
For the masthead of the magazine I am looking to use a Sans Serif font in order to keep the magazine clear and easy to read due to the clean cut font. The font throughout will appeal to both younger and older audiences within my chose target audience. The main target audience of 13-20 mainly favours a younger audience and therefore will need to be simplistic and modern to appeal to the younger demographic.
Examples:

I have chosen this font for the masthead:
For the cover lines of the magazine I am looking to use Serif font in order to keep the magazine clear and easy to read due to the clean cut font- I have gotten inspiration from existing pop magazine which use Serif font's on the cover lines. All my cover lines will be in capitals in order to engage the reader connoting the excitement of the text.
I have chosen this font for the cover lines/standard font :
For the body copy of the magazine I am looking to use a clear cut font, like Helvetica, in order to make the words easy to read for the target audience - I have gotten inspiration from existing pop magazine which use Helvetica as the body copy.
Examples:
I have chosen this font for the body copy :
'I was inspired by'
Colour Scheme:
LOUD magazine will follow a generic colour scheme to uphold the authentic pop theme. Therefore my colour scheme will include colours connoting the pop genre for example, bright pink, blue and purple. This creates an engaging yet appealing colour cobination for the target audience and may also make more people purchase the magazine due to the connotations of the bright colours being engaging and fun- which also connotes the pop genre.
